WNC magazine and the City of Asheville are pleased toannounce the finalists for Last Band Standing: Road to Bele Chere '09 competition. A.C.E., Brushfire Stankgrass, Buster, and Now You See Them will perform at the Last Band Standing battle-of-the-bands concert at The Orange Peel on Wednesday, July 8th.
A second round of online voting on http://www.wncmagazine.com will continue through Tuesday, July 7th. The final tally of online votes for each band counts toward half of their final score. During the show at The Orange Peel, the bands' performances and crowd reaction determine the other half. A panel of judges will offer commentary on and critique each performance. The judges are 98.1 The River's Ashley Davis, White Horse Black Mountain owner Bob Hinkle, Local Edge Radio 880 The Revolution's Lesley Groetsch, Mountain Xpress A&E Editor Rebecca Sulock, and Bele Chere Entertainment Chair Steve Busey. The winning band will play the opening slot on the Bele Chere Rock n' Kiss Stage on Coxe Ave. at 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 24. Other prizes include professional photographs courtesy of lydia see photography, a day of studio time at Echo Mountain Recording, gift certificates from The Musician's Workshop, and gift bags from Dream Guitars.
The Last Band Standing concert event is presented in partnership by WNC magazine and the City of Asheville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. Tickets to the July 8 concert are $5 and can be purchased at The Orange Peel box office or on http://www.theorangepeel.net. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit Mission Children's Hospital.
