Greg and Ashley Garrison, The Hop
Greg and Ashley Garrison are two scoops of delight. As owners of The Hop they serve up “cool treats, hot drinks, and fun” to the community they obviously love.
The homemade ice cream is smooth and delicious, based on the original Hop recipe that Asheville folks have enjoyed for over 30 years. With creative passion, they add local bakery ingredients (like carrot cake, caramel bits, or pumpkin spice).
And if that's not enough, the Hop features a popular vegan ice cream, rumored to be the best in Asheville, organic Asheville Coffee Roasters coffee, and the new Happy Tails doggie ice cream and socials, because our dogs need pampering, too.
In a bold mood that left some long-time residents nostalgic, the Hop moved a few blocks north in 2007 from the classic (and still standing) renovated service station to the Merrimon Square Shopping Center (640 Merrimon Ave, Ste 103, 828-254-2224). The “new” place is a spacious hangout, surrounded by dining options, and perfect for community gatherings.
In May alone they’ll be raising money for Animal Compassion Network, Manna Food Bank, and Asheville Youth Soccer Association. Entertainment includes concerts, puppet shows, acting troupes, storytelling, and jugglers (See The Hop Presents for more info).
With a colorful mural, wide open spaces, a special children’s corner, and free Wi-Fi, this kid (and adult)-friendly Hop rocks.
