On April 18, 2009, from 11am to 5pm, Short Street Cakes in Asheville North Carolina will host the second in a series of local, handmade Craft Markets called “Howard Street Handmade,” located at 227 Haywood Road, at the intersection of Haywood Road and Howard Street. There will be over 20 vendors featuring all-handmade crafts will display their wares in the beautifully renovated brick building adjacent to West Asheville’s newest Cake Shop!

Vendor applications are still being accepted for future Howard Street Handmade markets. Artists interested in vending at Howard Street Handmade should email howardstreethandmade@gmail.com, or stop by the Cake Shop at 225 Haywood Road to pick up a hard copy.

Ananda Hair Studio in Asheville North Carolina

I stopped by Ananda Hair Studio in Asheville North Carolina with the Flip Video Camera and started shooting away, no notice, just on the spot action. As usual, the gang was cutting hair and styling like pros. This is one of the top hair studios in Asheville owned and operated by Larry himself (top photo), and is a favorite of many of my friends. Stop by and check it out sometime. He has a few great offers for first timers, repeat clients, etc. On the walls of the studio you will see some paintings and artwork from local Asheville Artists as well.

For the Love of Art and Derby

Calling all artists! Asheville's all-female flat track roller derby team is gearing up for the 2009 Season! The Blue Ridge Rollergirls are putting together an art auction to benefit the league and we need your help! We are in need of donors of any type of art to contribute to this event, which will be at the end of March. The items will be auctioned off and proceeds will be used to put on a kick-ass season at the Asheville Civic Center filled with roller derby action! The Flood Gallery Fine Art Center on the 2nd level is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to promoting the arts in Asheville through the exhibition of established and emerging artists from all over the world. Through artist-residency programs, public events and workshops, and educational activities, Flood Gallery seeks to make art a vital and important part of life in Asheville.
