The 2011 Wheel Ride for Food will be this Saturday at Carrier Park. Mark your calendars and make plans to ride in our half-metric, metric Century, and 100-mile Century Ride. Ride the edge of the Smoky Mountains in Pisgah National forest at the French Broad River Festival. There are three different race categories for the annual cross country race: The Soft Core – 10 miles, Single Speed - 14 miles, Hard Core -18 miles. The race begins and ends at the festival grounds. Registration is free with your general admission festival ticket. A registration booth will be located in the main festival area. Register on Friday from 4pm – 8pm or on Saturday from 8-9:30.

If you show just for the race, registration is $15. Otherwise, the entry fee is complimentary with admission to the festival. Prizes awarded for each category. In AoB style, prizes will be awarded to the BEST IN SHOW and BEST HOOD ORNAMENT!

Earth Day @ Martin Luther King Park, Ride your City, Corral your Bike

Asheville on Bikes is hosting an event on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 10:00am - 10:00pm at Martin Luther King Park - 50 Martin Luther King Drive, Asheville, NC

AoB is hosting the first bicycle corral of spring on Saturday, April 18th at Martin Luther King Park located at 50 Martin Luther King Dr.

Gather your friends and family enjoy a pedal about town, then ride over to Martin Luther King Park and corral your bicycle before taking part in the festivities.

Store your bicycle with Asheville on Bikes and receive a pedallers appreciation prize, as well as, catch up on cycling’s current events. There is plenty of pedaller planning in the works, so stop by, stash your bicycle and catch up with AoB.

Pedal your bicycle along Asheville’s sprouting greenways systems. Along the way, fill your cup, frolic with friends and celebrate the liberty of cycle power. Gather at Carrier Park’s parking lot closest to the Velodrome at 2pmFrom there, we’ll pedal the greenway and circuitously roll about town. The ride culminates at the Wedge’s tasting room around 6:30. After the ride enjoy corn beef hash, good company and tales aplenty.

Save the date for the 3rd annual Bike Love celebration at the Wedge Gallery on Sat. Feb 21. Once again, AoB and A2P delivers on the best of local beer and music. Performing at this year’s event is Pierce Edens and the Dirty Work, Floating Action, (featuring Seth Kaufman) and Red Dirt Floor (featuring Marty Gallagher of ProBikes). Beer is sponsored by the French Broad Brewery. Doors open at 8:00pm. Admission is $15. Pro Bikes will be hosting a raffle for a Rocky Mountain Commuter Bike to further AoB’s efforts of promoting urban cycling in the City of Asheville. Raffle tickets are $3 each and are available at ProBikes located on 610 Haywood Rd.

Asheville on Bikes invites pedallers to show their support for Asheville’s Greenway Master Plan on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at City Council.

City Council will take public comment concerning the permanent closing of Wellack St. Should Council close Wellack St, Asheville looses an important piece of the greenway. We cannot allow this to happen. City Council needs to know we care.

Send City Council a strong message of support for the Greenway Mater Plan. Attend the meeting with your helmet on your head.

Without continued support from individuals, our city’s transportation infrastructure will not advance. You can make a difference in our city.
