Asheville Youth Mission: Many Voices Gives Debut Drama Performance - The Strength In Me

Asheville Youth Mission, the non-profit that co-sponsored the recent Hearts With Haiti dance tour now brings a debut performance by their new youth drama team.  

Many Voices is a drama troupe made up entirely of youth from the greater Asheville area and directed by Aimee and Bill Buchanan.  Every Many Voices production is an original work, with subject matter determined and developed by the cast members.  

The debut production of Many Voices is named The Strength In Me and is focused on the life, challenges, and triumphs of today’s teenage girl.  Using a main cast of girls ages 13-18, and a supporting cast of boys ages 13-16, Many Voices will amaze and inspire audiences with a mixture of drama, music, and rhythm.  

This performance will be enjoyed by many ages, but is particularly suited for youth and their parents.  Topics in this one act performance include family relationships, peer relationships, and teen pressures such as achievement, appearance, sexuality, and conformity.  At the conclusion of each performance the cast will engage in a conversation with the audience, answering questions both as characters and as actors.  

Many Voices recently had a sneak peek performance of The Strength In Me, receiving the following praise:

“Amazing performance!  These young people come across like professional actors.  I don’t know how they do what they do on stage.”

“I wish my daughter had been here to see this.  I think every teenage girl needs to experience this production.”  

“I hope this show will come to my city.  I know a lot of youth who need to see this.”

The Strength In Me will be performed at The Garage at Biltmore Village 

(101 Fairview Rd.) on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7pm and Saturday, Jan. 29 at 2pm

Thanks for the extra pizza at Asheville Pizza Wars!

Pizza was being delivered to the Garage at Biltmore for Asheville Pizza Wars from 13 great local pizzerias and restaurants in the AVL area. People were jumping in a line with dozens of pizza options to choose from. When the pizza started running out, 3 businesses stepped up and volunteered to have more pizza on the scene within minutes.

These pizza places were: Circle in the Square Pizza, Barleys Taproom and Pizzeria, and Franks Pizza. Jimi from Barley's actually had his ovens in tow and on site to make sure we had some back up, just in case. Thank you to these pizza companies that supplied additional pizza to the crowds.

The Asheville Pizza Wars, this Saturday 8/14 at 7pm, at the Garage at Biltmore

Just about everyone loves pizza. Adding craft beer to the picture and some fall deeper in love. The Asheville Pizza Wars features 10+ AVL area Pizza Makers and 3 Breweries making this a mini beer fest. Tickets are only $15 and that includes all you can eat and as many samples as you can drink. Asheville Music Venue - The Garage at Biltmore

AskAshevile recently got the opportunity to work with Christopher and Jan from the Garage at Biltmore in Asheville and had a great experience. The music venue was great with lots of musical talent and variety on the schedule. We watched them work behind the scenes and throughout the evening making sure all the customers had everything they needed to make the time there enjoyable and successful. Thank you for being a part of the AVL community.

I was working at French Broad (booking the music) and growing Tribe Management when the space (literally a garage) became available. I envisioned a music venue and we turned it into one in May of 2007

We love it here. Our favorite things about the area are the Mountains, breweries, people, rivers, music. What’s not to like? It’s eclectic and artsy, yet still attracts conservative affluence. A true melting pot. From our point of view, the best part of Asheville is the diversity. Many small businesses can still thrive here.

We regularly network with several other businesses in the area, but mostly: French Broad Brewery, Craggie Brewery, Asheville Pizza and Brewing Co. Because we serve their beers.

Our Venue features: live entertainment, social connectivity, and micro-brew beer. We’re an alternative place for music. We pride ourselves in setting trends and developing local music.

Featuring Master of Crowd Control "DJ Bandwagon!!!" from Tampa Florida. His Style is tasteful, his selection is prolific, his mixing is flawless, and your presence in mandatory.

Bandwagon's been honing his craft since the early 90's. Some may have known him as Unkphae, others as Johnny Law. The man has covered a lot of ground musically, between house, drum and bass, had a lounge act once, and his new projects and efforts in Dance Rock / Electro Pop direction. He has stood tall in rooms of broad shoulders playing with many of the finest acts from around the world and turned their heads in Awe! Now, the time has come for him to inhibit some ass shaking in our quaint mountain town.

Asheville Fashion Runway Show by Push Asheville Fashion - by Sonia Hendrix - March 27, 2009

Phi Beta Lambda at AB Tech is announcing the launch of “Push Asheville Fashion,” a promotional campaign to support local businesses and designers at a not-for-profit event that will showcase the best local talent in Asheville along with an over the top Asheville runway fashion show. The show will take place March 27, 2009 starting at 9:00 pm at the renowned venue, The Garage at Biltmore, and will feature designers, boutique representatives, and musicians all of whom are locally based. Both local and regional press is invited to cover the event.

The fashion show is primarily a showcase for local designers who create an array of clothing styles with a focus in professional business wear, casual business attire, casual wear, and summer wear. In addition to being a unique opportunity for local fashion designers, the event promises to attract local fashion and music enthusiasts and stunning runway models.

This is a positive event for Asheville, creating job opportunities for stylists, models and others involved in local fashion. Designers can show their collections on the modest budget of $120 and under per outfit. Travelers to Asheville will have a resource for supporting the local economy once a brochure is developed featuring local fashion boutiques. Local Ashevillians will have a fun event to attend that will showcase a performance by Asheville Dance Revolution and musical performances by Ras Brohan of Krystal Kind, Jen and the Juice, Afromotive members; Ryan Knowles and Jacob Keller in their group Plaza Real, local fashion, models, and a great foundation for networking.

“During this time of great economic strain the community must support its local businesses. What better way to showcase clothing than with a fashion runway show; a marketing method used at all levels in the fashion industry,” says Sonia Hendrix who is organizing the event with Phi Beta Lambda at AB Tech. “The desire of PBL’s project, PUSH ASHEVILLE FASHION, is bringing the attention of students to shopping locally by strategically marketing, campaigning, and showcasing participating boutiques/designers to students at ABTech, UNCA, and the citizens of Asheville.”
