Asheville PWB “Hard Hats in Heels” Receives Donation

Last week, Asheville Professional Women in Building, a council of the Asheville Home Builders Association, received a $600 donation from Push Asheville Fashion, a locally founded venture geared towards promoting local boutiques and clothing designers through fashion shows and social media.

The PWB, a local builder’s council whose slogan in the community is known as “Hard Hats in Heels,” is dedicated to supporting women within their industry by actively encouraging professional development, supporting active involvement in the political and legislative processes involved in construction, and providing scholarships to local students through community support.

The donation from Push Asheville Fashion was raised from proceeds earned at a July fashion show produced earlier in the year by coordinator, Sonia Hendrix, featuring local clothing items from 18 boutiques and 12 local designers.  As requested by Push Asheville Fashion, the donation has been earmarked by the PWB for their student educational scholarship fund.

For the second consecutive year, the community driven organization, founded in 2008, will award a scholarship to a qualified North Carolina student seeking an education in a building or construction related field.

Chapter President Amanda Ballew, @AVLCustomCloset on Twitter, was excited to present the donation during the council’s Holiday Member Luncheon, stating, “We are so excited to receive this donation for our scholarship fund. It took us two years to earn our first scholarship [awarded last year], so it’s a huge impact on what we’ll be able to contribute.” Ballew went on to say, “it is definitely going to impact the actual number of scholarships that we’re able to give.”

Students interested in applying for the scholarship can find application details on the Asheville Home Builder’s Association webpage, www.ashevillehba.com/committes.php and view the PWB section or call the AHBA at (828) 299-7001.

Push Productions Fashion Show in Asheville Coming Soon - Meet Sonia Hendrix

PUSH ASHEVILLE FASHION 2010: An entire year has passed by the city of Asheville since our first fashion show and now the time has come again for the 2010: Summer Edition of Fashion, brought to you by PUSH Productions, a local AVL entertainment production company, already notorious for the production of the 2009 PUSH Asheville Fashion show.

Last year, over 200 people came through the doors of, The Garage at Biltmore, to see what they were promised would be the best fashion show in town. PUSH 2009 presented 36 models, showcased 14 boutiques with three local designers vending, all from the Asheville community! The goal of the show was (still is), proving to students and citizens of Asheville that shopping local is not only affordable, but the only way to find the clothes that are meant to be worn by YOU. PUSH was supported by the Asheville Citizen-Times, Mountain Xpress, G-Social Media, 105.9 the Mountain, 98.1 the River, The Garage at Biltmore, Bouchon French Bistro, Phi Beta Lambda at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, and ComaGun Music. Since the conclusion of last year's show, word has certainly spread that PUSH ASHEVILLE FASHION is a smash hit that needed to be repeated. Well, ladies and gentlemen---the time has come!

Starting now, the 2010 production of PUSH Asheville Fashion is accepting all business inquires related to participating in the fashion show. To qualify to be in the show, your business MUST be locally owned/operated and in the Asheville area. The staff of PUSH Productions will be personally inviting businesses and local designers to participate, but still are requesting independent designers and store owners to submit applications to be in the show. Please include a personal statement about your business.

This year's 2010 fashion show will be twice the size with two runway shows; 15 local designers and 20 local boutiques, local sustainable jewelery tents, silent auction, burlesque, aerial performances, cocktail party, and dinner. Don’t miss out on this must-have opportunity to have your designer or business name splashed all over Asheville streets, blogs, newspapers, and radio--through a process of heavy promoting and campaigning in anticipation of the show.

Yours in Community Growth,
Sonia Hendrix

Asheville Fashion Runway Show by Push Asheville Fashion - by Sonia Hendrix - March 27, 2009

Phi Beta Lambda at AB Tech is announcing the launch of “Push Asheville Fashion,” a promotional campaign to support local businesses and designers at a not-for-profit event that will showcase the best local talent in Asheville along with an over the top Asheville runway fashion show. The show will take place March 27, 2009 starting at 9:00 pm at the renowned venue, The Garage at Biltmore, and will feature designers, boutique representatives, and musicians all of whom are locally based. Both local and regional press is invited to cover the event.

The fashion show is primarily a showcase for local designers who create an array of clothing styles with a focus in professional business wear, casual business attire, casual wear, and summer wear. In addition to being a unique opportunity for local fashion designers, the event promises to attract local fashion and music enthusiasts and stunning runway models.

This is a positive event for Asheville, creating job opportunities for stylists, models and others involved in local fashion. Designers can show their collections on the modest budget of $120 and under per outfit. Travelers to Asheville will have a resource for supporting the local economy once a brochure is developed featuring local fashion boutiques. Local Ashevillians will have a fun event to attend that will showcase a performance by Asheville Dance Revolution and musical performances by Ras Brohan of Krystal Kind, Jen and the Juice, Afromotive members; Ryan Knowles and Jacob Keller in their group Plaza Real, local fashion, models, and a great foundation for networking.

“During this time of great economic strain the community must support its local businesses. What better way to showcase clothing than with a fashion runway show; a marketing method used at all levels in the fashion industry,” says Sonia Hendrix who is organizing the event with Phi Beta Lambda at AB Tech. “The desire of PBL’s project, PUSH ASHEVILLE FASHION, is bringing the attention of students to shopping locally by strategically marketing, campaigning, and showcasing participating boutiques/designers to students at ABTech, UNCA, and the citizens of Asheville.”

The thirteen boutiques showcasing outfits from their stores and outfits of local designers are: Wink, Custom, Hip Replacements, Fashionistas, Va Va Voom, Terra Diva, Frock, Union, Virtue, Boga, Vintage Moon, Hunk, and Honey Pot Contact: Sonia Hendrix - AB Tech Phi Beta Lambda VP of Projects (828)-713-5459
