Love the food at Savoy Restaurant in Asheville!

The Kitchen at Savoy. It was all I could do to keep from grabbing those plates ready for pick up!

The dining area at Savoy. Owner, Eric Scheffer, sits with guests on a table to the right.

Asheville Walgreens on Merrimon Avenue - North Side

Walgreens came to Asheville, planted stores in several directions, and continues to be one of our favorite stores to browse around. They have a little bit of everything!

Picnic's Restaurant & Home Cooking in Asheville

We stopped in Asheville Picnic's tonight for a quick bite and got much more than we bargained for. They had live music, great home cooking, a wonderful staff, and a very comfortable atmosphere. If you are in Downtown Asheville, head North on Merrimon about 2 minutes and Picnics in on the right, right after Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church and before Dunkin Donuts and the Corner Pocket Bar.

Asheville Arrest off Merrimon Avenue, Asheville's Worst Street

Saw three APD police cars next to GreenLife off of Merrimon Avenue. This street is the "shortcut" when walking from Merrimon Ave to Broadway Ave. This strip right here used to be one of the worst streets in Asheville. Prostitution on this sidewalk and in the bushes, drugs, robberies, and anything else you can think of. GreenLife grocery came in and produced a lot of traffic, the Asheville Police regularly patrolled, and this block cleaned up. Then on the right, a little behind me, is the new Pioneer Building which is building #1 of the new 5 Points Village that Mr. Kevin Kerr and his inspired team have been planning on for years. Now, the history of this street is exactly that... History. The future of this street is very bright. This place is exploding and every inch will soon be accounted for. At least 6 more nice development spots right around this little village in Downtown Asheville, and that is besides the 5 Points property. www.GreenlifeGrocery.com and www.5PointsVillage.com

24hr Coffee in Asheville North Carolina

Plenty of business at this coffee shop on Merrimon Avenue. It stays packed inside and out, especially on Thanksgiving, when most places are closed. This place is right next to New York Fashions on East Chestnut and Merrimon Ave in North Asheville. From their website... "Caffiend is the Carolina's first and only 24 hour coffee and espresso bar. We started just this year and have already gained a reputation as a destination coffee house in the Southeast. Caffiend features amazing coffee from not one, but four roasters as well as a variety of local gourmet baked goods. Many things set us apart from the competition; whether it's the widest variety of drinks available in our region, the over one hundred varieties of gourmet teas, the lowest prices in our region, or the comfortable seating there's something for everyone at Caffiend. Caffiend also offers amenities you come to expect from any great coffee house such as free wireless internet as well as an in-house computer with available printing (for a small fee). So we invite you to visit a true phenomenon in coffee, Caffiend... and don't forget SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK!" www.CaffiendAsheville.com

Ace of Spades Tattoos

Quick pick of some of the "Ace of Spades" crew hanging in front of their shop on Merrimon Ave, Asheville.

More Asheville Graffiti on Merrimon Avenue

This new graph is on the corner of Merrimon Ave and East Chestnut on the North side of Downtown Asheville. It is on top of the building right next to the Obama campaign headquarters in Asheville. As the neighborhood grows, so does the vandalism. Several Asheville companies are staying ahead of the game and using "graffiti proof coatings" on any walls on the exterior of their business.

New Pioneer Building in Downtown Asheville

Kevin Kerr from Set Sail Development is looking forward to finishing this giant building that will have semi-underground parking, retail space, office space, and condos. They plan on developing a lot of that area on Broadway Ave in downtown Asheville. If you do not know where this building is, it is right behind Greenlife Grocery off of Merrimom Avenue.

Attempted Burglary @ Youngblood Bicycles on Merrimon Ave Asheville

Stopped by today to see Wholesale Glass & Mirror installing two new glass panes (door and window). Owners said they only took a kids bike, but left it on the sidewalk out front. Asheville Police found a suspect who fit the description a passerby supplied, but had no additional evidence. No charges filed. The owners said it was a costly event for his business at this time.

Great looking bikes there too! Visit them @ www.youngbloodbikes.com

Merrimon road work finally finished

Here are the last finishing touches on the pipeline/road work going on down Merrimon Ave across the street from the Asheville Pizza Company. As of today, the full two lanes are back open.

Asheville Stained Glass

Stopped by the Grace Episcopal Church on Merrimon Avenue (you know... the one with the red door... and also the hill of pumpkins around halloween) today for their book sale. I heard the people behind me talking about the City of Asheville fused in the stained glass in the gable. I was like "what?!". Here is the pic. On the way out, one of the gentlemen kindly invited me to their Sunday morning service at 11:15 am.

Asheville Grafitti - not too nice

Okay "Moms", here is your 3 minutes of fame. Years ago in NYC, there was big tension and division between those who claimed to be "grafitti artists" and those who were considered "toys" by the graph world. Of course the artists yelled that the "toys" were "making them look bad". The "toys" screamed "we want a voice too!" This piece of work on the recently closed Dominoe's Pizza on Merrimom Ave makes all grafitti look disgusting. Not only is it a crime to deface property, but things like this make it all the worse. Who is this "MOMS"?
