Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School is a monthly mix of art class and cabaret, with scantily clad burlesque, side show, and vaudeville dames posing for feverishly sketching artists. Local small businesses sponsor prizes for drawing contests such as “draw the model with your favorite vice!”At Dr. Sketchy’s, we don’t care if you picked up a pad yesterday or 50 years ago. Come to drink or to draw. We’re happy to have you.

Asheville's River Ridge Marketplace

I have been shopping at the River Ridge Marketplace in Asheville North Carolina regularly for many years. Great stores including Kitchen & Company, Hallmark, Dress Barn, Rugged Wearhouse, AC Moore, a new CVS, and several more. Kind of mad when Laser Tag left awhile back, but getting over it.

Food establishments include J&S Cafeteria, Fat Buddies Ribs and Barbeque, McDonald's, and KFC. There is also a shopping establishment across the street that features Babies R Us, Golf USA of Asheville, Bilo, Advance Auto Parts, Subway, and Burger King.

All of these stores are only 5 minutes away from the Asheville Mall and 2 minutes away from the Asheville Wal-Mart.

Asheville's Texas Roadhouse, Restaurant & Great Entertainment (check out the dancing!)

Asheville has plenty of restaurants and food options, but none is as fun as this one is sometimes. Here is some nice footage of the Texas Roadhouse on Hendersonville Road in Asheville North Carolina (a stones throw from Biltmore Village). You can tell the vibe of the people behind the scenes by the way the restaurant is run and the tone they pass on and keep alive. A bunch of friendly comfortable staff that does not even look for a minute like they need to be there. I love it. Bartender (Kristie) was very cool, inviting, and pro... so 100% there (and I did not even have a drink)... Bam! But the dancing in this video is very entertaining. The waitress with the antlers was trying to sell those Texas Roadhouse gift cards like mad. Nice pitch. Thanks. I will be back. www.TexasRoadhouse.com

Asheville's Future Starts Here, simple development

The video is about construction going on below the Hillcrest Apartments in Asheville North Carolina. They are replacing a section of pipe... most likely a water line. But, I would like to talk a little on the area if you don't mind. This lower part of AVL, between Downtown, North, and West Asheville has several businesses including Grainger straight ahead, Southern States on the left here, several auto parts yards, several auto parts and repair places, and soon the Rivers Condos will be up less than a mile ahead from this point. The Richmond Hill Inn is also only one minute ahead and to the left. This is one section of real estate that will see a drastic improvement in 2009. All along the French Broad River is going to be beautiful and "Green". UNCA only 4 minutes from here. Such a great versatile central location.

Anyway... the market is the only thing that slowed Asheville down for a minute, but come Spring, people are going to start making some extra large moves. The whole economy may not pick up as quickly as here, but Investors and Planners are on the scene and Asheville is a great investment with so much future potential when you incorporate WNC. While others slept... lol. Asheville is creeping elegantly upon the National and Worldwide circuit, not too fast or slow, but kinda just right... if you know and see what I mean. Even McCafe and McDonalds plans in Asheville were not "officially" disclosed. They are staying low key in preparation for the new wave, and trying to sneak in ahead of the competition. They will be the bright new, new look, new feel restaurant on the circuit. Days Inn is using this down market time to re-invent their look and maybe some other things. People are planning and thinking... much of it is about Asheville North Carolina. What have you been thinking about lately?

Welcome to Montford, Asheville North Carolina

I personally love Montford. The homes, people, and vibe is wonderful. I did not know too much about the area, but I took this from their Montford website. Please read the info and history.

"Whether you are a visitor, new to the neighborhood or a longstanding resident, Montford is a great place to be.

A Brief History:

Montford is a neighborhood in Asheville, North Carolina. A portion of Montford is a National Register Historic District, the first of three local historic districts to come under the jurisdiction of the Historic Resources Commission (HRC) of Asheville and Buncombe County (see the Asheville city link for more information and guidelines). Montford Hills is an adjacent neighborhood which is outside the jurisdiction of the HRC. Recent years in Montford have witnessed the renovation of many of the neighborhood's residences by individual families and a myriad of industrious bed and breakfast owners who have helped to restore the district to its former splendor.

Located in Buncombe County (founded in 1792), the town of Asheville, North Carolina was incorporated in 1797. However, until the arrival of the railroad in 1880, Asheville was little more than an isolated mountain village, a small trading center and occasional vacation spot for a few summer visitors. When rails overcame the barrier of the Blue Ridge, a boom began that was to continue almost uninterrupted for five decades.

The neighborhood that permanently expresses the diversity of this era is Montford. This sprawling, homogeneous neighborhood of about three hundred acres retains over six hundred structures representing a rich diversity of architectural styles, most constructed between 1890 and 1920 during Asheville's emergence as the greatest city of the Southern Appalachians. The adjacent area know as Montford Hills was dubbed a suburb of Montford and built primarily in the 1920s.

Asheville's Flat Iron Building, NYC junior

When Downtown Asheville North Carolina was designed, it was patterned after NYC... and we even have our own Flat Iron Building between none other than "Battery Park Avenue" and "Wall Street" Asheville. This is a landmark point in Asheville as it is packed out with so many little local shops and businesses. More like "Little New York City".

There are several ways to tour Asheville North Carolina. Some people love walking around with a little map, checking out the history of the area, browsing the shops, and talking to the locals. More Asheville Graffiti on Merrimon Avenue

This new graph is on the corner of Merrimon Ave and East Chestnut on the North side of Downtown Asheville. It is on top of the building right next to the Obama campaign headquarters in Asheville. As the neighborhood grows, so does the vandalism. Several Asheville companies are staying ahead of the game and using "graffiti proof coatings" on any walls on the exterior of their business.

The Health Adventure & Buncombe County School's Field Trips

Have you ever been to the Health Adventure? From our previous ventures there we have experienced many different exhibits from Curious George to The Busy World of Richard Scarry, but we have also explored more of the permanent exhibits that can be seen year round. I love the interaction my children are able to have with the different exhibits. The Nutri-Space & Creative PlayeSpace is where my daughters had the most fun.

My daughter just attended a field trip that took her to our city's very own Children's Museum. What a difference my daughter said it was from our personal trips. She was able to learn more, ask questions (That I probably did not know the answers to), and had her friends along for the ride. They had an interactive probability presentation that everyone was able to participate in along with several other presentations that were seen. They also were given free time (Two children per adult) to explore the museum on their own. After they returned to their school they all discussed their likes and dis-likes and why.

Buncombe County Schools 3rd Grade level are all taking field trips to the Health Adventure in downtown Asheville, NC. I am glad that Asheville has a place for our children to learn and grow in a positive way. You can check out the Health Adventure at http://www.thehealthadventure.org/.

Asheville's West End Bakery - Very Nice!

Stopped by the West End Bakery on Haywood Rd. in West Asheville for some breakfast and coffee. It was very busy as usual. Great place with lots of great food. 2008 Presidential Election Results, thoughts of

Sitting here in Asheville North Carolina thinking... "a few hours from now, we will know for sure who our next President will be". I do not remember a time in my life when the economy was this bad. I have never seen a financial crisis like this in the USA; or maybe I was just too young to notice? So in my mind, things can only get better... with either one of the candidates. Now, of course I have my personal preference, but I believe that whoever "gets in" will be obligated to show the people of America a change. They will be held more accountable than ever before. I cannot wait for it! Not expecting a miracle; just a planned balanced change to make every one of our lives a little better.

Trick or Treating Weaverville North Carolina

This past Friday we spent our evening walking around the streets in the downtown comminuty of Weaverville North Carolina. It was Halloween, with Clone Troopers, princesses, dead girls & pirates of our large family were safe and had a alot of fun. Most families were sitting on their porches waiting for us to walk up the side walk to give us our treat. I have lived in many different towns and by far Weaverville is the safest and friendliest for my family and many others from the near by area including Asheville, Mars Hill, etc. I want to thank the Weaverville residences whom participated in decorations, costumes, and giving out candy of course. It made the experience for my family... perfect!

Reynold's Mountain Asheville Shopping Coming Soon!

If you have not been up the hill to Food Lion and Reynold's Mountain in Woodfin lately, stop by and take a look. They are building a giant shopping town center, with this building being used for retail and office space. A great addition to North Asheville. Somebody said something about the new YMCA going up there as well.

KCB Construction is the General Contractor on this job. Many sites are already developed in this soon to be "Mountain Shopper's Dream" on Reynold's Mountain.

Merrimon road work finally finished

Here are the last finishing touches on the pipeline/road work going on down Merrimon Ave across the street from the Asheville Pizza Company. As of today, the full two lanes are back open.

Asheville Stained Glass

Stopped by the Grace Episcopal Church on Merrimon Avenue (you know... the one with the red door... and also the hill of pumpkins around halloween) today for their book sale. I heard the people behind me talking about the City of Asheville fused in the stained glass in the gable. I was like "what?!". Here is the pic. On the way out, one of the gentlemen kindly invited me to their Sunday morning service at 11:15 am.

Asheville Yacht Club @ Beaverdam Lake 08

Stopped by today to see what was going on at Beaver Lake. The Asheville Yacht Club was out today with their remote controlled sailboats. There must have been about 20 or so participants (men, women, children). Great club and nice hobby to pick up. The man I spoke to said that he bought his boat off of Amazon.com for about $200, and loves "sailing" at this beautiful lake in North Asheville.

Beaver Lake has always been a favorite for me. They have a little boat area where local residents can "park" their boats (no motors), a nice walking path, a nice walk for dogs (with permit only), and a bird sanctuary connected to the south side of the lake. The sanctuary has a walking ramp with accents such as pergalos, benches, and gazebos all along the way. Close parking is not great, so most people park at the North Asheville Library on Merrimon or at the Bird Sanctuary, and walk 2 minutes. (Not far at all). Be careful in this area as many people park across the street and cross Merrimon to get to the lake. Asheville Law Enforcement also does "speedtrap" training on this road every once in awhile.
