Skinny Legs and All and WSNB rock the Westville Pub

Last night, the Southern Fried Blues Society sponsored a fundraiser for the bands to help them travel to Memphis, TN in February to attend the International Blues Challenge. WSNB won the local SFBS competition to be in the competition, Skinny Legs and All is the nominated band to attend the Youth Showcase. The Westville Pub was filled with music lovers, friends, and family - and they enjoyed a fantastic show put on by both the bands. The silent auction displayed beautiful art, clothing, and jewelry. Those who donated money to the fund were given raffle tickets and took home t-shirts, Cd's, gift certificates, and even a bucket of Moon Pies! Everyone who came out to support the bands had a great time - and the servers and bartenders at the Westville Pub kept the beer and food flowing. Thanks to Peggy Ratusz and everyone at the Blues Society for planning the event! There will be another fundraiser in January - so keep posted and please come out and see these fantastic bands!

Deaverview Apartments in West Asheville NC

What used to be a drug crazed war going on in these housing projects, seems to be toned down over the last year or so. What is the future of these 2-Story Townhouses which are low income housing projects? A big development is making way right next store to these so are they going to attempt to blend it in, or will the developers eventually acquire these... or will the City start investing and make these nice condos on the affordable housing side... or will they just eventually get another facelift?

Please, check those Asheville bridges and overpasses!

Quick pic of the State crew out working on this bridge overpass in West Asheville on Brevard Road on I-240. From what I heard there was a distressed kitten stuck up under the overpass... (just kidding). I am glad they send crews out regularly to check these overpasses. Of course Westgate gets checked very frequently, and it should. The Westgate bridge has some elevation on it and two of my kids are scared to death of it after several bridges collapsed around the country. What is the term for "bridge phobia" anyway?

Blurry Night Streets of West Asheville

Standing in the Citi-Stop parking lot right across from the West End Bakery. I started "patterning" the lights and so I pulled my little blackberry out and took this quick blurry pic. Maybe you see something in it too, lol.

Rentals Suffer in West Asheville

Phase 1 of this West Asheville, Sand Hill Rd. development is complete, to the left, and full of renters. When I stopped by today, the manager was banging on doors and telling another resident that half of the people living here are not paying their rent. Everyone is suffering financially because we all make this economy go round. I have been "cutting back" like mad and because of that, the restaurants, shops, and places I frequent suffer as well. Economy... Please come back strong!

Asheville Dogs, Great Dane with toy

Here is a beautiful dog we saw on Patton Avenue in West Asheville. Likes women only, bad history with men, lol. Check out the stuffed animal (frog) this dog carries around. This lady was the dogs new owner, and she seemed perfect for the job. Thank you to all our animal lovers in Asheville North Carolina!

The Rush - new Asheville sports club

Two new sports clubs/complexes are open in Asheville as of November 1st, 2008. One on the corner of Haywood Rd & Patton Ave and the other on Hendersonville Rd. Word is that the one on Haywood Rd is just a spin-off to get members and then they will build a giant Asheville sports complex where the Bilo on Patton is now (just closed down). Ha, the economy is bad, but big companies (Rush has many locations nationwide) know that they better plant now to accommodate the inevitable growth that Asheville North Carolina will see in the next 36 months.
