Sheriff Van Duncan Invite to 'On Track'

Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan invites you to the graduation of the 3rd annual "On Track" youth leadership program.

The graduation ceremony will be held Thursday evening June 16th at 6:00 at Biltmore Baptist Church located at 35 Clayton Road Arden, NC 28704.

Sheriff Duncan had a vision for the "On Track" program soon after he was elected in 2006. The program has been a collaborative effort between the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office and the Eblen Foundation. "On Track" is designed to provide an opportunity for rising 8th and 9th graders in Buncombe County Schools to learn leadership skills through team participation and confidence building exercises and training. The program lasts two weeks and is staffed by Sheriff Duncan and School Resource Officers at the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff and School Resource Officers teach blocks of instruction on topics such as emotional intelligence, effective communication, and instruction on leadership and the importance of teamwork. In addition they participate in team building exercises such as a ropes wilderness course and have a career day.

Sheriff Duncan stated "There is nothing more important than our children. This is an excellent opportunity to get directly involved with these kids and make a lasting difference in their futures. The skills they learn in this program will hopefully make them more successful in life".

Sheriff Duncan invites everyone out attend this important event.

This is the first of two "On Track" sessions planned for this summer. The next session will start Monday June 22nd and graduation will be Thursday July 2nd at 6:00 at Biltmore Baptist Church, 35 Clayton Road, Arden, NC.

(This is a great effort and program. If at all possible, please make efforts to attend)
